chicago lakes trail
the 100th birthday of national parks got me thinking. there are a lot of great hikes just outside of denver. the best one ive been on in recent memory is chicago lakes. park at the base of mount evans - at echo lake park and you're off.
it's about a 12 mile hike round trip and offers beautiful view in the mt. evans wilderness and three lakes along the way. i would call it medium hard but not so hard you will have to stop a bunch. we brought sandwiches to eat at the top but it would also be a great overnight. just bring a tent and hang out near the bottom of the twin lakes.
there are two lakes, a summit lake and a lower lake. getting to the lower lake requires some bushwhacking but is totally worth it.
we did the loop during the day and then got bbq in idaho springs before heading back to denver. 10/10 would hike again.
thanks teddy for giving us the parks.
